BUCCANEERS SPRING HOCKEY

Hello Hockey Fans,

Paul Whintors from Complex Hockey Training runs the Buccaneers spring hockey program. Paul received a full ride scholarship to Cornell Hockey University where he was an accomplished defensemen. He grew up in Oshawa, Ontario, the land of outdoor rinks and hours of creative non-instructional hockey. Paul is not only a great hockey player, but also a great student of the game.

Buccaneers spring hockey is the only spring hockey program that supports individual development, along with team development. A powerful team begins with developing and motivating players. Paul runs practices that involve repetition of skills through a variety of drills so players do not loose interest. He believes players should enhance their creativity while maintaining the aspect of fun and the love of the game. That players have a mindset centered on improvement, work ethic and self-belief are habits that are key to a player’s long-term development and success.

Players have the opportunity to develop personally by attending Complex Hockey Training’s facility and receiving small group instruction. Players work in groups of 3 shooting hundreds of pucks while receiving instruction on shooting and stick handling. Paul has a unique state of the art treadmill skating program that is second to none and all treadmill employees are trained and certified on the unique 24-phase skill progression that is only taught at Complex Hockey Training. Our treadmill is guaranteed to improve your player’s speed, power and efficiency.

The Buccaneers program is based on a 3 practice to 1 game ratio allowing for time to work on all aspects of the game. Here are some program highlights:

• 2 on-ice practices each week •

• training in both team tactics and individual skills •

• 3 local tournaments •

• 6 exhibition games •

• weekly visits to the training facility •

Paul runs 1on-ice practice each week while the other is run by each teams associate head coach. Magic Goalie Development typically provides goalie instruction during player development ice times. Each team will participate in local tournaments that are best suited for their specific age group and development, including our own Complex Cup.

We believe in “the talent code” philosophy, which explains the pathways to create habits and build talent.
